Summertime smoothie

We here in the UK are enjoying a rare heat wave, considering last summer was a washout I am quite enjoying the 30 degree temperatures.

There's nothing better than sitting in the sun and sipping on a Cuba Libre. Unfortunately it's only 11am and as such it'd probably not be wise to travel that road so early in the day.

Instead I've raided the fridge to create a summertime smoothie.

Smoothies of course can be made from most fruits, and vegetables. As it happens I've had a few strawberries hanging around the fridge for longer than I should so they'll make the perfect ingredients.

Unfortunately I don't have enough strawberries to hold a smoothie on its own so I've plumped for a banana.

This drink is very simple and will make about a pint and three quarters. All you need is about a pint of milk, strawberries, a banana and ice cubes.

I like to chop up my fruit and then put them in the blender. You don't have to but I feel doing that and pureeing makes for a much smoother smoothie.

I have a sweet tooth and find a teaspoon of sugar lifts the drink. You don't of course have to add it. I'm probably being extremely unhealthy

Once you've done that pour in the milk, blend it up and serve in whichever glass you fancy.

Give it a go and let me know what you think.

Try adding a few spoons of Greek yogurt to give your smoothie a bit more body and a tang.
